Nonoperative Treatment of Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease




Abstract
Legg-Calve-Perthes disease(LCPD) is reversible, juvenile idiopathic avascualr necrosis of the femoral head with poorly understood pathogenesis.
The primary aim of treatment of LCP disease is containment of the femoral head within the acetabulum by nonoperative or operative management according to the stage of the disease.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that affect the course and prognosis of LCP disease in conservative treatment by clinical, radiological, and quantitive method for evaluating results.
Authors reviewed 29 patients with LCP disease treated by nonoperative means from Apr. 1986 to Dec. 1991. There were 27 males and 2 females.
The patients were followed along for an average of 35 months(range, from 16 to 72 months).
@ES The conclusions from our study follow.
@EN 1. Most patients obtain good resuits relatively.
2. No correspondence between catterall, salter thompson and stulberg classification.
3. Even if patients with catterall III or Iv involuevrent, the results were good or fair by nonoperative treatment in LCPD.
